[13.05.2016] Robotic Unit: Preliminary Analysis of the Stability

To perform the overall system layout and analysis, a preliminary geometric model of the robotic unit was created based on the initial choice of the arm architecture, dimensions of the mobile base and the weight distribution of their components. A quasi-statically balanced model of the robotic unit was built on Geogebra for the approximate evaluation of the stability margin and dimensional synthesis:
  • The effect of the design parameters (arm link lengths and masses of the different components) on the stability of the robotic unit was studied.
  • The static stability of the robotic unit was analyzed during different cleaning scenarios (wall, ceiling, floor, corner points, nearby obstacles).
  • The initial analysis indicates the need for additional stabilizers for the robotic unit that will be subject to further investigation.

[12.05.2016] Specification of asbestos removal tasks

In the first month of the project, the process of asbestos removal was investigated, analyzed an documented in detail for different real world scenarios. In order to make clear for all partners of Bots2Rec what asbestos removal is, some pictures taken on different sites and explanations had been given. A standard level of flats and a scenario of asbestos removal had been drawn and described with all specific aspects of human removal. All the elements and information shared had been found by meeting several persons from different origins. With the different tools used for the asbestos removal, the different partners will proceed to tests. Objectives will be to define the best tools linked to the tasks that need to be done.

[19.02.2016] Bots2ReC Kick-Off Meeting

The Kick-Off Meeting of the Bots2Rec project was held in the historic center of Aachen, a city with a long European history. Having been the residence of Charlemagne and coronation place for Kings and Emperors, the city is strongly committed to the European idea and awards the prestigious annual “Karlspreis” for lasting services for the unity of Europe. An ideal place to start a project with partners from all over Europe
After a sociable get-together at the historic brewery pub “Deegra”, the first day was focused on the introduction of all partners and team members and the project organization. The coordinator team gave a project overview and introduced the File and Data Exchange (FADE) system for the scientific and administrative collaboration of all partners. During the 3-day meeting the consortium members discussed details on the implementation, technical requirements and roadmap to the first version prototype. Lab tours to the consortium partners “indurad” and the “Department of Mechanism Theory and Dynamics of Machines of RWTH Aachen University” gave a deep insight to their research and expertise and led to fruitful technical discussions.
The nice atmosphere, intense exchange and productive discussions, mark a very good start of the project. The partners headed back home on Friday afternoon with a good portion of work to be done and high motivations for their project contributions.

[03.02.2016] Kick-Off Web Meeting

After intense preparation, the Bots2ReC project officially started on Monday 01.02.2016. During the todays web meeting representatives from all partners prepared the official Kick-Off , to be held in Aachen mid of February. The coordinator Prof. Corves chaired the meeting and gave an project overview and introduction to the first milestones. The project partners will use the next two weeks for intense discussions of all work packages, tasks and details steps to achieve a first version prototype within the first 12 month of the project.

We are looking forward to an exiting project and a fruitful collaboration in the next 3,5 years.
